Pre-IUC courses are done as substitutes for the national/regional examinations. So we accept students into our degree programmes with 3 passes in approved subjects in CXC or other national/regional examinations. Such students are required to do and pass any two Pre-IUC courses to satisfy the 5 subjects for entry. The student must pass both parts 1 and 2 of the course inorder to record a pass in the course, Additionally, this must be done in the first year of study, Students for the BEd: Primary are not allowed to matriculate in this way. They must have 5 subjects in the national/regional exams.
You will be expected to complete the number of CSEC subjects necessary to obtain the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in General Studies. The University will provide all the teaching required for taking the CSEC exam, but the cost of the exam is not included in the cost for the Pre-IUC programme.
If you have entered the programme with three (3) CSEC subjects you will be expected to complete two (2) CSEC subjects or Pre-IUC courses, and if you have entered with four (4) CSEC subjects you will be expected to complete one (1) CSEC subject or Pre-IUC courses.
If you are completing two (2) CSEC subjects you will be allowed to study two (2) degree-level courses. If you are completing one (1) CSEC subject you will be allowed to study three (3) degree-level courses. The credits from these degree-level courses can be transferred into the Nursing Degree programme on successful completion of the Pre-IUC Programme.
